Court judgment clears Tinubu of allegations of interfering in judiciary – Matawalle
High Court Ruling Clears President Tinubu of Judicial Interference Allegations, Says Defence Minister
KADUNA – Minister of State for Defence Mohammed Matawalle announced that a recent High Court ruling, which recognized the leadership of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has exonerated President Bola Tinubu from claims of judicial interference.
In a statement released on Friday, Matawalle emphasized that the court’s decision underscores Tinubu’s respect for judicial independence and his commitment to democratic norms.
The Abuja High Court dismissed a lawsuit that contested the leadership of the ADC under former Senate President David Mark, affirming that the party’s governance structure complied with both its constitution and the law.
Matawalle stated, “Tinubu’s refusal to interfere with the judgment shows his commitment to democracy and judicial independence.” He further confirmed Mark’s leadership position and rejected assertions that Tinubu was attempting to sway the judiciary or establish a one-party state in Nigeria.
According to Matawalle, the ruling reflects the President’s dedication to due process, the rule of law, and the judiciary’s independence. He noted that Tinubu has never sought to influence court proceedings, even on politically sensitive issues, despite ongoing criticism from opposition leaders.
Matawalle accused some politicians of disseminating misinformation following unfavorable court outcomes while neglecting decisions that demonstrate judicial autonomy. He urged Nigerians to evaluate court rulings objectively and recognize the President’s efforts to bolster democratic institutions.
“The sanctity of the judiciary remains non-negotiable because the President believes that a strong and independent judiciary is fundamental to Nigeria’s democratic survival, political stability, and national cohesion,” he stated.
On security matters, Matawalle reiterated the Federal Government’s commitment to addressing insecurity through military operations nationwide. He reported that troops under Operation Fansan Yamma had successfully dismantled multiple bandit camps, eliminated key criminal figures, and reclaimed territories previously held by armed groups in the North-West.
The minister added that military actions across various regions have substantially weakened terrorists and criminal gangs. He assured the public that President Tinubu remains focused on combating insecurity by equipping the Armed Forces and other security agencies with necessary resources.
