Dangote Industries Limited has initiated preliminary engagement and survey activities for the Olokola Deep Seaport project, a crucial element of its Vision 2030 expansion strategy. The multi-billion-dollar endeavor aims to enhance maritime infrastructure and bolster Nigeria’s trade capacity.
Located within the Olokola Free Trade Zone, the proposed deep seaport and industrial enclave spans over 10,000 hectares across the Ogun Waterside Local Government Area of Ogun State, extending eastward towards the Ilaje Local Government Area of Ondo State along the Atlantic coastline.
Local community leaders have expressed strong support for the project, highlighting its potential to drive economic growth in the region. They praised the industrial vision of Aliko Dangote, the Group’s president.
Capt. Jamil Abubakar, Managing Director of Infrastructure & Logistics at Dangote Industries, led the company’s delegation to the host communities. He articulated the project’s goal of transforming the region economically and establishing a global presence for local communities.
“The deep seaport is designed as a logistics gateway for an integrated industrial ecosystem, aimed at enhancing Africa’s maritime trade capacity and boosting regional commerce,” Abubakar stated. He noted that the port would serve as the logistics backbone for Dangote Industries, facilitating exports of fertilizer, petrochemicals, and refined petroleum products, as well as supporting future Liquefied Natural Gas exports and the importation of heavy industrial equipment.
Abubakar emphasized the project’s significance in unlocking Nigeria’s economic potential, reducing congestion at existing ports, and fostering industrial growth. “It will create substantial opportunities through jobs and business activities across Ogun and Ondo states,” he said.
The Olokola seaport is positioned to become a key logistics gateway for imports and exports, enhancing Nigeria’s competitiveness in global trade. Abubakar reaffirmed Dangote’s commitment to building infrastructure that will yield long-term benefits for both the economy and local populations.
The delegation’s visit included land surveyors, estate valuers, and environmental consultants, and they met with communities such as Ode-Omi in Ogun State, as well as Araromi Seaside Kingdom and Igbokoda in Ondo State. Community leaders welcomed the project and pledged their support.
