Ganduje Critiques Obi-Kwankwaso Presidential Ticket Ahead of 2027 Elections
Former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Abdullahi Ganduje has expressed skepticism about the presidential ticket of Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso representing the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), asserting it will not gain traction in Kano State during the 2027 general election.
In a statement to reporters on Tuesday, Ganduje, who previously served as governor of Kano State, characterized the ticket as lacking the necessary political clout and governance experience to win over voters in the region.
“I don’t think Peter Obi and Kwankwaso’s ticket will succeed in Kano. It will not succeed. In fact, it is dead on arrival,” Ganduje remarked.
The former governor questioned Obi’s tenure as Anambra State governor, suggesting that he failed to establish a legacy that would support his bid for the presidency. “What did he do as a governor? What legacy did he leave?” Ganduje asked.
He further challenged Obi’s qualifications for effective national governance, stating, “What other responsibility in governance did he hold that would convince us he can manage this country effectively and efficiently?”
Ganduje also scrutinized Kwankwaso’s political history, noting that he did not secure consecutive terms as governor, unlike his predecessors in Kano. “Kwankwaso was not able to be a governor back-to-back,” Ganduje stated.
He highlighted that both of his predecessors, Ibrahim Shekarau and Ganduje himself, successfully served two consecutive terms in office.
Additionally, Ganduje emphasized that Kwankwaso has yet to establish a lasting political legacy that would reassure Kano residents and the nation of his capabilities as a potential vice president. “What legacy can you say that he has left in Kano that will convince the people of Kano, or the people of Nigeria, that he will be a successful vice president?” he concluded.
