Delta Police Arrest Suspected Armed Robber in Asaba

ASABA, Nigeria — Operatives from the Delta State Police Command have apprehended a 26-year-old suspect, identified as Sunday Nimel, believed to be involved in multiple armed robbery incidents in Asaba and surrounding areas.

The arrest occurred on October 7, 2026, during an operation prompted by credible intelligence and executed in collaboration with local vigilante groups. Police recovered three firearms, including one AK-47 rifle, alongside ammunition and two locally made cut-to-size guns from a hideout near the Okpanam City Gate.

In a statement released Saturday, Delta State Police Public Relations Officer SP Bright Edafe confirmed the details of the operation and noted that Nimel is linked to several residential armed robberies in the region.

“During interrogation, the suspect provided information that led to the discovery of the weapons,” Edafe stated. “Investigation is ongoing.”

Delta State Commissioner of Police Samuel E. Erale praised the efforts of the operatives involved in the operation. He emphasized the command’s ongoing commitment to intelligence-led policing and the dismantling of criminal networks in the state.

Erale urged members of the community to continue their support by providing credible information to law enforcement officials, assuring them of the police’s dedication to ensuring safety and security.
