Deputy Senate Minority Whip Rufai Hanga dumps NDC

Senator Rufai Hanga, the Deputy Minority Whip of the Senate representing Kano Central, has announced his departure from the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).
In a resignation letter dated August 3 and addressed to the NDC ward chairman at Najeria Ward in the Nasarawa Local Government Area of Kano State, Hanga stated that his resignation is effective immediately.
Hanga previously joined the NDC after its registration as a political party, following his affiliation with Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso at the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).
In his letter, Hanga expressed that the decision to leave the NDC came after “careful reflection and personal deliberation.” He formally notified the party of his resignation, stating, “I am writing to formally notify you of my resignation from the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), effective from today, 3rd August 2026.”
He also mentioned that he would be pursuing personal commitments and other career paths. Hanga expressed gratitude to the ward executive committee and party members for their support during his tenure.
“I cherish the relationships built and the experiences gained during our political activities together,” he added.
Additionally, Hanga requested that his name be removed from the party’s membership register and that his official NDC membership card be returned. He concluded by wishing the NDC and its members well in their future endeavors.
