Ebonyi Activist Claims Airport Converted into Worship Center
Ebonyi State – Charles Otu, spokesperson for the Ebonyi Civil Society Coalition, has alleged that the Chuba Okadigbo International Airport is no longer functioning as a transportation hub, but is instead being utilized as a church facility.
During an interview on Arise Television’s Morning Show on Thursday, Otu claimed that aside from private chartered flights reportedly used by Governor Francis Nwifuru and his wife, the airport has ceased to accommodate commercial flights.
“It is good you remembered the airport because I would have forgotten it,” Otu remarked during the broadcast.
He asserted that the airport is being used for Sunday services and midweek gatherings by a church, creating an unusual situation for what is typically a public transportation facility.
“We have observed videos online that show, aside from the private chartered flights landing for the governor and his wife at public expense, no other flights have been using that airport,” Otu stated.
Describing the situation as unfortunate, Otu emphasized the unusual repurposing of the airport. “A church has unfortunately taken over that airport,” he said, noting that its current use deviates significantly from its intended function as an aviation facility.
Efforts to confirm Otu’s claims or obtain further comments from airport officials were not immediately successful.
