FCT Police storm kidnapping hideout in Abuja, arrest pregnant suspect, three others

FCT Police Arrest Four Suspects in Banditry Operation

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command announced the arrest of four individuals linked to banditry during an operation conducted in Abuja. The arrests follow a concerted effort to combat rising crime in the region, particularly kidnapping.

FCT Commissioner of Police Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi briefed the media on the latest developments during a press conference in Abuja on Monday.

The operation targeted a suspected hideout in the Byazhin area, where the police had previously conducted an anti-kidnapping initiative. On June 11, Sanusi and his team apprehended the suspects: Yahaya Abdullahi, Muhammed Yunusa, Hauwa Shafiu, and Shamsudeen Mustapha.

Preliminary investigations indicated that the group is part of a broader criminal network engaged in kidnappings and other illicit activities within and around the FCT. Sanusi noted that the suspects had established ties within the local community, allowing them to gather intelligence and orchestrate attacks on specific individuals and locations.

One suspect, Hauwa Shafiu, was apprehended while pregnant and subsequently gave birth to a healthy child while in police custody. Authorities provided necessary medical care for both Shafiu and her infant.

The police recovered several items during the operation, including four motorcycles, numerous tramadol tablets, cash totaling 320,000 naira, five mobile phones, a point-of-sale machine, and cooking utensils.

The operation marks a continuing effort by local law enforcement to enhance safety and security in the FCT amidst ongoing concerns over banditry and kidnapping.
