FCTA threatens sanctions over use of facilities by illegal political organisations

FCTA Issues Directive to Hotels and Event Centers in Abuja

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has instructed hotel and event center operators in Abuja to engage exclusively with recognized political party leaders during the current political season, according to a statement issued on Friday.

The administration emphasized that operators must refrain from allowing unauthorized groups to utilize their facilities for gatherings, warning that violations could result in the revocation of property titles.

The statement, released by Lere Olayinka, Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media to the FCT Minister, stressed the importance of complying with the regulations set forth by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

“In this political season, owners must only engage with INEC-recognized leadership of political parties concerning the use of their facilities,” the statement noted.

The FCTA reiterated that land allocated within the FCT is designated strictly for lawful activities and cautioned against any gatherings that could jeopardize the peace and security of the capital.

“Usage of event centers, hotels, and other public buildings will now be closely monitored to ensure they are not misused by unauthorized organizations,” the statement continued.

The administration encouraged property owners to verify the legality of organizations renting their venues and to keep accurate records of all transactions. Noncompliance with these directives could lead to sanctions, including the potential revocation of title documents.
