Bauchi State Governor Calls for Enhanced Security Measures
Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed has instructed security agencies to amplify operations throughout the state, reinforcing a commitment to eliminate criminal activities. During a meeting of the State Security Council on Thursday at the Executive Council Chambers, he emphasized that criminal groups must no longer operate unhindered within any community.
The governor directed the military and police to enhance patrols, dismantle forest hideouts, and bolster surveillance in border areas particularly susceptible to kidnappings and banditry. He highlighted the need for a decisive response to emerging security threats.
“Security forces must take the fight directly to criminal hideouts in forests and border communities,” Mohammed said. He urged agencies to sustain coordinated efforts and expand the successes achieved in Alkaleri, Ningi, Ganjuwa, and Toro Local Government Areas to other regions.
Mohammed also cautioned traditional rulers against providing refuge to criminals or granting land to suspicious individuals. He warned that anyone found facilitating illegal activities would face legal repercussions.
“No traditional ruler should provide shelter, land, or protection for criminals. Those collaborating with them will face the full weight of the law,” he stated.
In addition, the governor called for increased joint patrols, enhanced surveillance in vulnerable border settlements, and the dismantling of camps utilized by kidnappers and bandits. He reiterated his administration’s commitment to supporting security forces with improved logistics, technology, and expanded security infrastructure, including a greater military presence and additional police formations.
He urged security personnel to maintain professionalism and impartiality during upcoming political activities, emphasizing the importance of protecting democratic processes while upholding law and order.
Governor Mohammed praised the contributions of the Nigerian Army, police, Department of State Services, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, vigilante groups, and other security operatives in combating insecurity. He specifically commended the troops of the Nigerian Army’s 3 Division and the 33 Artillery Brigade for their intelligence-driven operations that successfully dislodged terrorists from Mansur village and surrounding areas, allowing thousands of displaced residents to return home safely.
The governor expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu, the National Security Adviser, and Service Chiefs for their support in bolstering security operations in Bauchi State. However, he cautioned against complacency, noting that criminal groups displaced from neighboring states are attempting to infiltrate the region.
“This is not the time to relax. We must continue to strengthen our operations and ensure that criminals have no place to hide anywhere in Bauchi State,” Mohammed concluded.
