Gov Lawal urges NYSC members to embrace skills acquisition

Zamfara Governor Urges NYSC Members to Focus on Skill Acquisition
Gusau, Zamfara State — Governor Dauda Lawal has encouraged members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) assigned to Zamfara State to prioritize skill acquisition and entrepreneurship during their service year.
Lawal delivered this message at the swearing-in ceremony for the 2026 Batch A Stream II corps members, held at the NYSC Orientation Camp in Gusau. He was represented by Alhaji Nasiru Galadima Kaura, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Youth and Sports Development.
The governor highlighted the importance of utilizing the service year productively by acquiring vocational skills and engaging in entrepreneurship programs. He noted that such initiatives could help mitigate youth restiveness and foster self-reliance among young Nigerians.
Assuring corps members of their safety, Lawal stated that his administration has implemented comprehensive security measures in partnership with relevant agencies. “We have put in place adequate measures to ensure that you are safe and well protected throughout your stay in Zamfara State,” he said.
He further underscored the significance of the NYSC scheme in promoting national unity and development. Lawal urged the new corps members to actively participate in camp activities, especially the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) program, which aims to equip them with practical skills.
“You must obey all camp rules and regulations, and uphold discipline, leadership, teamwork, and patriotism, which the orientation course is meant to instill,” he added.
Mallam Muhammad Lawan Ahmad, the Zamfara State NYSC Coordinator, praised Governor Lawal for his ongoing support for the NYSC scheme and corps members in the state. He noted recent enhancements in corps members’ allowances and logistical support at the orientation camp, reflecting the government’s commitment to their welfare.
