Influencer Sophia Momodu Discusses Personal Struggles Following Pregnancy Out of Wedlock
NEW YORK — Nigerian influencer and entrepreneur Sophia Momodu spoke candidly about her experiences with emotional and psychological abuse after becoming pregnant out of wedlock by global music star Davido.
During an event at the United Nations General Assembly on Monday, Momodu shared her story and the challenges she faced as a pastor’s daughter who became the subject of public scrutiny. She stated that she was ridiculed for her situation, which she described as overwhelming and stigmatizing.
“I am a pastor’s daughter who got pregnant out of wedlock by a global superstar. And I was mocked. It was crazy. I had to find myself in the midst of all that,” she said.
Momodu also addressed the toll the negative criticism took on her ability to express herself, noting that, despite her fame, she felt silenced. “For a long time, I didn’t have a voice despite being famous. I was worried and getting drained by the negative criticisms. If you are a Nigerian, you will know that it is almost a taboo for a pastor’s daughter to have a child out of wedlock,” she added.
She emphasized that she eventually regained her voice after being encouraged to remain silent due to the perceived shame surrounding her story.
Sophia Momodu is the mother of Davido’s first daughter, Imade Adeleke.
