I Will Not Dance To Promote A Movie

Actress Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde Discusses Dance as a Movie Promotion Tool
Nigerian actress and filmmaker Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde recently addressed the growing trend of using dance to promote films. During her appearance on TVC Entertainment, Jalade-Ekeinde expressed her reservations about participating in such promotional activities.
“I would not be doing the dancing. I’m very, very sorry. It’s just not me,” she stated. While she acknowledged her love for dance, she emphasized that it should come from a genuine desire rather than be aforced expectation. “You want to dance because you feel like it, not because you have to. There’s a difference,” she said.
Jalade-Ekeinde explained that backlash against dance-driven promotions often stems from the pressure actors feel to comply. When dancing is used as a marketing strategy, it risks overshadowing the actors’ primary responsibility—delivering quality performances. “When it becomes a chore… it’s not professional. I already did the project,” she noted. “I should promote the project, and let the professionals handle distribution and advertising.”
Her comments echo those of filmmaker Kunle Afolayan, who recently declared he would rather not produce a film with a high budget if his profits are minimal.
