Defence Minister Denies Resignation Rumors, Threatens Legal Action
ABUJA — General Christopher Musa, the Minister of Defence, has announced plans to pursue legal action against individuals spreading false rumors regarding his resignation from office.
Musa made the statement on Tuesday following a meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa. This announcement comes after speculation circulated about his potential departure from the position, which he has previously denied.
In a statement issued by his media aide, Leah Katung-Babatunde, Musa expressed his surprise at the rumors. “I was shocked when I heard and saw that. I don’t know where that came from,” he said. He attributed the rumors to those unhappy with recent improvements in the country’s security situation.
According to Musa, “Security situation has improved, things are getting better,” suggesting that certain individuals may want to portray a different narrative. He insisted, “I’m not going anywhere,” and clarified that he had never considered resigning.
Musa reiterated his commitment to his role, assuring the public of the government’s ongoing efforts to enhance security. “I just came back from briefing the President on the current security situation, and he’s very happy with us,” he stated.
He expressed gratitude to Nigerians for their support, emphasizing the collaborative approach needed to combat terrorism and banditry effectively. “To defeat terrorists and bandits is a whole societal approach,” he remarked, noting the positive trends in security and the continued efforts to improve conditions across the nation.
