‘I’ll be President for four years’ – Makinde tells APM North-East meeting

Makinde Promises Four-Year Presidency, Aims to Reset Nigeria
YOLA, Nigeria—Seyi Makinde, the presidential candidate for the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) and current governor of Oyo State, announced on Saturday that he intends to serve as president for a single four-year term. Speaking at a town hall meeting in Yola, he emphasized his plan for a transitional government that would facilitate the return of presidential power to the North after his tenure.
During the event, attended by APM leaders and candidates from the six states of the North-East, Makinde declared, “The government we will put in place from May 2027 will be a transitional government of national unity. It will not last beyond four years.”
He promised to approach governance with sincerity and emphasized the importance of community input, stating, “We will listen to you because solutions can come from anywhere.”
Bauchi State Governor and APM national leader Bala Mohammed supported Makinde, praising him as one of Nigeria’s brightest minds. “We in the North East have the numbers to influence who becomes president of Nigeria. The North East will vote massively for you,” he said.
In addition, Abdulrahman Haske, the APM governorship candidate in Adamawa State, expressed his commitment to mobilizing voters for Makinde and other party candidates across the North-East.
Makinde’s visit highlights ongoing efforts to strengthen the party’s presence in the region ahead of the elections.
