ADC Chairman Raises Alarm Over Insecurity and Economic Turmoil in Nigeria
David Mark, the National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has voiced serious concerns regarding escalating insecurity and economic difficulties in Nigeria. Mark highlighted the struggles faced by millions of citizens as they grapple with rising living costs, mounting unemployment, and diminished purchasing power.
During the ADC’s National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting in Abuja on Saturday, Mark underscored the urgent need for leadership at all levels to address the current security and economic challenges plaguing the nation.
“Today’s meeting comes at a defining moment in the political and democratic journey of our nation,” Mark stated. “This moment calls for sober reflection, honest evaluation, and purposeful action.”
Mark expressed gratitude for the opportunity to gather in good health and emphasized the commitment of the committee and the broader party structure to the party’s ideals. He remarked on the ADC’s growth, attributing it to the dedication of its members who believe in leadership characterized by integrity and service.
The ADC chairman laid bare the pressing issues Nigeria faces. He described insecurity as threatening lives and livelihoods in many regions, resulting in displaced communities and hindered agricultural activities. Additionally, he pointed out that economic stress is pushing families into hardship, especially through rising costs and unemployment.
“We do not celebrate the difficulties confronting our nation, nor do we seek political advantage from the pain of our people,” Mark said. “Instead, we support all sincere efforts to restore peace, security, and economic stability.”
Mark urged governments at every level to take decisive actions against insecurity and implement policies aimed at improving the quality of life for Nigerians. He stressed that the meeting’s purpose extends beyond discussing national concerns; it also seeks to strengthen internal democratic processes within the party.
As the ADC’s policy-making body, the National Executive Committee must operate with wisdom, fairness, and transparency, Mark asserted. He called for the party to uphold internal democracy, reward loyalty, and promote active participation.
Looking ahead to future elections, including the 2027 general elections, Mark emphasized the need for unity. He warned against personal ambition overshadowing the party’s collective goals and encouraged resolving internal disagreements through respectful dialogue.
“Strong political parties are built not merely on personalities, but on enduring values and institutions,” he noted. Mark concluded by urging party leaders and members to recommit to the ADC’s vision of a stronger and more inclusive political alternative for Nigeria.
