Man allegedly confesses to abducting niece to sell for N7m
A man from Adamawa State, identified as Andrawus James, has confessed to abducting his 18-year-old niece with the intention of selling her for 7 million Naira.
James allegedly committed the abduction of his niece, known only as Fatima, after negotiating the sale with a prospective buyer. He was apprehended after disclosing his plans to another individual.
According to reports, James, who resides in Bai village within the Yadim District of Fufure Local Government Area, admitted to the crimes upon being arraigned at Chief Magistrate Court 2 in Yola on Saturday morning. The court, presided over by Chief Magistrate Dorcas Marvin, ordered James to be remanded in a correctional facility. The case has been adjourned pending further legal advice from the state Department of Prosecution.
During the court proceedings, prosecution officer ASP Ezra Bulus presented a First Information Report indicating that on August 16, 2026, Mohamed Buba, a resident of New Market in Ganye Local Government Area, reported the abduction to the Divisional Police Headquarters.
The report detailed that James had approached Buba, expressing his desire to become wealthy by selling his niece. The two negotiated the price and discussed logistics for the transaction.
James then contacted Fatima, who lives with her parents in Damare Ward, Yola South Local Government Area. He deceived her into believing he had secured a job for her in Abuja and instructed her not to inform her parents about the arrangement.
However, instead of taking her to Abuja, James brought Fatima to Ganye, promising to meet someone who would transport her to the Federal Capital Territory. Unbeknownst to him, Buba had notified security personnel, resulting in James’s arrest upon his arrival in Ganye.
