Insecurity: ‘Terrorism drastically reduced’ – Defence Minister Musa claims

Nigerian Defense Minister Reports Decrease in Terrorism Rates

In a recent interview on Arise Television, Nigeria’s Minister of Defence, Christopher Musa, announced that terrorism across the country has significantly declined, attributing the current security efforts a performance score of 65 to 70 percent.

Musa highlighted that while incidents of terrorism and kidnapping persist, the overall situation has seen substantial improvement compared to previous years. He emphasized that no nation is entirely free from crime, marking a notable shift in Nigeria’s security landscape.

The Defence Minister linked many security challenges to a breakdown in family values and insufficient social orientation. He noted that individuals engaging in kidnapping often seek quick financial gain rather than pursuing traditional employment avenues.

Additionally, Musa suggested that some criminal activities may be politically motivated, intended to portray the government as ineffective or to create an impression of lawlessness within the country.

Despite ongoing challenges, the minister assured the public that the armed forces and other security agencies continue to work diligently to combat insecurity nationwide. He expressed appreciation for the increasing support from Nigerian citizens during these efforts.

“The level of terrorism across the country has actually drastically reduced,” Musa stated. “While we still see acts of terrorism, it is a reflection of societal issues, including family dynamics.”

He underscored the need for education and awareness, encouraging individuals to pursue hard work over shortcuts in their quest for wealth. Musa pointed out that many kidnappers target individuals who are unlikely to pay ransoms, suggesting that such crimes may also serve as politically motivated acts designed to undermine public trust in the government.

“The armed forces and security forces are committed to addressing these issues,” he concluded, noting that public support has improved compared to previous years. “We are making significant progress.”
