Israeli forces have persisted in airstrikes against targets in southern Lebanon, even with a ceasefire agreement brokered by the United States two weeks prior.
On Monday, an Israeli drone strike targeted a vehicle in southern Lebanon, resulting in the deaths of at least four individuals, according to the Lebanese National News Agency (NNA). Among the deceased were a school principal, her mother, a foreign domestic worker, and a Syrian national, all returning from a visit to their family home in Nabatieh al-Fawqa.
Despite the ceasefire, Israel has conducted intermittent strikes in the Nabatieh region, asserting its actions aim to combat Hezbollah positions and personnel. Both Israel and Hezbollah have leveled accusations of ceasefire violations against one another.
The ceasefire, which began on June 21, was part of an agreement signed last month by the United States and Iran aimed at curbing regional hostilities.
Hezbollah escalated its involvement in the conflict with Israel on March 2, launching rockets in retaliation for the assassination of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei.
In the wake of ongoing hostilities, Lebanese authorities report that Israeli strikes have resulted in the deaths of approximately 4,300 people since the conflict’s resurgence. The United Nations estimates that more than 640,000 displaced individuals have returned to their homes in Lebanon since June 22, following a displacement that affected over one million people.
