Makinde’s chief of staff resigns; defection to APC likely – Source

Segun Ogunwuyi has resigned as Chief of Staff to Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, effective October 12, 2026. His departure marks another significant shift, following a series of resignations among aides within the Makinde administration in recent weeks, as the state approaches the 2027 general elections.

Sources indicate that Ogunwuyi’s resignation may stem from internal conflicts within the governor’s political camp, raising questions about potential realignments towards the All Progressives Congress (APC). However, it remains unconfirmed whether Ogunwuyi plans to join the APC.

An unnamed source familiar with the situation noted that ongoing disagreements among officials have fueled speculation about these political shifts. “There are suggestions that he could be considering joining the APC, but we cannot say that definitively at this stage,” the source said.

In his resignation letter, Ogunwuyi expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve and reflected positively on his tenure. “Serving the Government and the good people of Oyo State has been a great honour,” he wrote. He described his experience in the administration as fulfilling and expressed pride in the collective achievements of the team.

Although Ogunwuyi did not provide specific reasons for his resignation, it follows a notable trend of political appointees leaving the governor’s office. His departure raises questions about its impact on the governor’s political landscape as the elections approach.

Ogunwuyi, a former member of both the Oyo State House of Assembly and the House of Representatives, has played a significant role in Makinde’s administration. As speculation about his future continues, neither he nor the governor’s office has confirmed any plans regarding a shift to the APC.
