Bauchi Police Arrest Four in Connection with Homicides
The Bauchi State Police Command has apprehended three individuals in connection with the homicide of 51-year-old Monday Chiroma, following an attack allegedly motivated by accusations of witchcraft. Additionally, a fourth suspect has been arrested in relation to the fatal stabbing of 25-year-old Zahradeen Dan’Azumi Tanko in Unguwan Kur.
Police spokesperson SP Nafiu Habib provided details in a statement released Wednesday. According to the report, Chiroma and another local resident, Yelwa Bango, were attacked by a group who accused them of bewitching a 20-year-old woman, Jamila Anthony.
Chiroma succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment at a hospital in Gudun Hausawa, Bauchi. The attack occurred on July 20 around 11:30 p.m., after which the victims were transported to Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital.
“Monday Chiroma was certified dead, while Yelwa Bango was admitted and treated,” the statement noted.
The arrested suspects have been identified as Danjuma Anthony, 25; Ayuba Anthony, 22, also known as Babaru; and Christopher Adamu, 34. They have reportedly confessed to their involvement during police interrogation. Authorities are continuing efforts to apprehend additional suspects who remain at large.
In a separate incident, police arrested 21-year-old Al-Amin Hamisu Gidado for the stabbing of Tanko in Unguwan Kur on July 25. The police allege Gidado, along with a second suspect identified as Yahaya Mu’azu, who is still at large, stabbed Tanko in the back. Medical personnel at Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital pronounced Tanko dead upon arrival.
Both cases have been referred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation and potential prosecution.
Commissioner of Police Sani-Omolori Aliyu condemned the violence, urging the community to reject vigilante justice and to report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
