‘Nollywood producers want to finish me with Odogwu roles’ — Uzor Arukwe cries out

Nollywood actor Uzor Arukwe has expressed frustration over being frequently cast in the same type of role, specifically “Odogwu” characters, and has called on film producers to diversify the characters offered to him.
In a recent interview on The Creativitea Podcast, Arukwe stated that producers are continually encouraging him to reprise the role, believing it would yield financial success. “All the producers in Nollywood now want to kill me with Odogwu character. You can’t put me in a box,” he said, urging industry professionals to take risks on different roles.
Arukwe emphasized that just as someone once took a chance on him, producers should create new characters and explore his range as an actor. “The same way someone took a chance on that character, you can also create another character and give it to me,” he added.
His comments followed observations from his manager, Mautin Tairu, known as Mr. M, who shared that he too has grown weary of Arukwe’s repeated portrayal of “igbotic” roles.
