NSCDC Arrests Man for Alleged Theft at Water Station in Jigawa
The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Jigawa State has arrested a 35-year-old man, Rayyanu Ibrahim, in connection with the alleged theft and vandalism of armoured cables at the Birnin-Kudu Township Water Station.
The incident was reported around 4:00 a.m. on Sunday, September 20, when unknown assailants reportedly damaged the facility and tampered with its electrical systems.
According to a statement from NSCDC spokesman ASC Badruddeen Tijjani Mahmud, the Divisional Officer of the Birnin-Kudu Division, CSC A. S. Adam, promptly dispatched operatives to investigate the matter.
Acting on credible intelligence provided by the Birnin-Kudu Peace and Security Group, authorities arrested Ibrahim at approximately 11:00 a.m. the same day. He was found in possession of an armoured cable believed to have been stolen from the water station.
Preliminary investigations revealed that Ibrahim confessed to his involvement in this incident and claimed to have participated in other acts of armoured cable theft and vandalism within and beyond the Birnin-Kudu area. He reportedly stated that the stolen cables had been sold to scrap dealers.
The NSCDC has since broadened its investigation to identify and apprehend any additional individuals connected to these criminal activities and to assess the full extent of the damage and losses incurred.
Jigawa State Commandant CC Muhammad Kabiru Ingawa emphasized the Corps’ commitment to protecting critical national assets and public utilities essential for citizen welfare. He urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities near vital infrastructure or government facilities to the NSCDC or relevant security agencies.
Ibrahim remains in custody as the investigation proceeds, with further actions pending in accordance with applicable laws.
