Three Suspected Armed Robbers Arrested in Ondo State
Operatives of the Ondo State Police Command arrested three individuals suspected of involvement in a criminal syndicate during a stop-and-search operation over the weekend.
The suspects, who allegedly operate between Ondo and Lagos States, were apprehended while traveling in a Mercedes-Benz ML 350 SUV. Police discovered an AK-47 rifle, a magazine containing 18 rounds of live ammunition, an English-made Beretta pistol with four rounds of ammunition, an axe, and an iron cutter in their possession.
During a briefing with reporters, Ondo State Police Commissioner Felix Ohagwu identified the suspects as Promise Daniel, 34; Ifeanyi Umahi, 29; and Adaramoye Abayomi, 37.
Ohagwu stated that the arrest was connected to an armed robbery case that was reported on June 14, 2026, at the Iju Division in Ita-Ogbolu, located in the Akure North Local Government Area. He noted that the suspects had been under surveillance by the police.
“The Command has recorded a significant breakthrough in its ongoing efforts against violent crimes with this arrest,” Ohagwu said. He added that the suspects are believed to be involved in numerous armed robbery incidents in both Ondo and Lagos States.
Acting on credible intelligence, police intercepted the suspects while they were in transit. During questioning, the individuals provided confessions regarding the ownership of the recovered weapons and other criminal activities.
“The information they provided is aiding investigators in tracking down other members of the gang and revealing the full scope of their operations,” Ohagwu noted.
