Oyebamiji sues for peace, condemns political violence across Osun

Osun APC Candidate Expresses Concern Over Political Violence

Bola Oyebamiji, the governorship candidate for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State, has voiced alarm regarding a recent surge of political violence across the region. His remarks followed reports of shootings in various areas on Tuesday.

In a statement released that day, Oyebamiji extended his sympathies to those who have sustained injuries or suffered losses, wishing a swift recovery to the victims and their families.

Describing the incidents as unfortunate, Oyebamiji reaffirmed his commitment to democratic values, emphasizing that elections should be determined through voting rather than violence. “Democracy is a contest of ideas, vision, and service to the people,” he stated. “No political office, including the Governor’s position, is worth the life of any individual.”

He expressed particular concern over attacks targeting APC members and supporters, alleging that party affiliates have been assaulted during political events. Oyebamiji claimed that APC supporters were attacked in Owode-Ede, where buses associated with his campaign were vandalized.

Furthermore, he alleged that participants in a peaceful “Walk-to-Live” rally in Ifeland were assaulted by individuals connected to the ruling government, resulting in injuries among attendees. Similar reports from Osogbo described physical assaults on party members, with some claiming to have been shot at, though independent verification of the situation remains pending.

Condemning all forms of political violence, Oyebamiji stated that intimidation and lawlessness have no place in a democratic society. He highlighted the government’s responsibility to protect lives and property, noting that many residents currently feel threatened amid rising political intolerance and insecurity.

As the governorship election approaches, Oyebamiji pledged that security would be a priority if he is elected. “The safety and security of our people will be a top priority of my administration. Citizens should be able to exercise their democratic rights without fear,” he noted.

He encouraged residents to maintain peace and lawfulness despite provocations, expressing hope for a new administration to emerge after the election. Oyebamiji’s proposed government aims to focus on welfare, security, prosperity, and strengthening democratic institutions across Osun State.
