Oyo abduction: Makinde should see Tinubu – Laolu Akande

Former Media Aide Urges Oyo Governor to Collaborate with President on Abduction Crisis

Laolu Akande, a former aide to the President, has urged Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde to engage with President Bola Tinubu regarding the recent abduction of schoolchildren and teachers in the state.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily program Thursday, Akande addressed the kidnapping incident that occurred in the Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.

While acknowledging the efforts of the Oyo State government, Akande emphasized the importance of a coordinated approach. “I don’t want to undermine what the Oyo State government is doing in this particular instance,” he said.

He pointed out that state governors receive a security vote, and indicated that how these resources are managed can greatly affect local security issues. “I can only imagine that Makinde is doing a lot in this regard. What we need to demonstrate is a collaboration between the state and the federal government,” he added.

Akande highlighted that, due to the current security framework, the federal government ultimately holds significant authority. “We still operate under a federal police system, and military resources are under presidential control,” he noted.

He suggested that Governor Makinde should take the initiative to meet with President Tinubu. “The President was in Lagos just two days ago, and Makinde is in Ibadan. It’s perplexing that the two have not met,” Akande remarked.

He concluded by stressing the importance of presenting a united front to the public on this pressing issue. “It may require the President to formally invite him to discuss a coordinated response to this crisis.”
