At Least 797 Dead, Thousands Missing Following Glacier Collapse in Himalayas

A glacier collapse in the Himalayas has resulted in at least 797 confirmed deaths and more than 3,000 people reported missing along the Nepal-China border. The incident, which occurred on Wednesday, triggered severe flooding that devastated the Trishuli and Bhotekoshi river systems.

The floodwaters swept away entire villages, destroyed roads, and damaged hydropower facilities, with some bodies being carried as far as India.

In Nepal, hundreds of workers at hydropower projects are unaccounted for. Authorities report that approximately 93,000 residents have been impacted by the disaster, as rescue teams face significant challenges, including collapsed bridges, blocked access routes, and ongoing landslides.
