Ogun State Police Confirm Soldier’s Death in Attack

Ogun State Police have confirmed the death of an unidentified soldier during a criminal attack at a sand mining site in the Magbon Etido area of the Mowe/Ibafo axis in Obafemi-Owode Local Government Area.

The incident occurred early Monday morning when gunmen, suspected to be kidnappers, targeted the dredging site. According to eyewitness accounts, one military personnel assigned to protect the site was killed, while another sustained gunshot wounds.

A video circulating online shows the body of the deceased soldier, dressed in camouflage, being transported in a pickup truck with individuals believed to be police officers and other civilians nearby.

Police spokesperson DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi stated that the attack is considered an isolated incident, distinct from ongoing banditry issues in the region. He assured the public that the injured soldier is receiving medical attention.

“Following the report, police operatives, in conjunction with military forces, quickly mobilized to the site and initiated coordinated operations to identify and apprehend those responsible,” Babaseyi said.

Preliminary investigations do not suggest any link between this incident and broader banditry activities in Ogun State. The police have reinforced their presence in the area to ensure community safety.

Residents have been reassured that the situation is under control. Investigations and tactical operations are ongoing.
