Police rescue abducted victim, neutralise two suspects in Ogun
Operatives from the Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the Ogun State Police Command successfully rescued a truck driver who had been kidnapped and neutralized two suspected kidnappers. The operation, which was conducted along the Papalanto–Ilaro Road, resulted in the recovery of two AK-47 rifles, ammunition, and other evidence linked to the crime.
In a statement released on Sunday, Deputy Spokesperson Oluborode Opeyemi reported that the operation was based on intelligence and forms part of an ongoing effort to combat kidnapping and other violent crimes in the region.
The victim, a professional truck driver, was abducted on August 25 at approximately 11:10 p.m. in the Ajibawo area of Ibese, Ogun State. Following the receipt of the kidnapping report, the Anti-Kidnapping Unit moved swiftly, locating the suspects’ hideout and engaging them in a firefight.
During the confrontation, two suspects were killed while other gang members fled with gunshot wounds. A subsequent search of the hideout yielded two AK-47 rifles, 25 rounds of 5.6mm live ammunition, two mobile phones, and N2 million in cash, believed to be proceeds from criminal activities.
The bodies of the deceased suspects have been transferred to a morgue for autopsy, and police efforts are ongoing to apprehend the escapees.
Commissioner of Police Bode Ojajuni reaffirmed the command’s dedication to using intelligence-led approaches, tactical operations, and community cooperation to ensure public safety. He urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious individuals, particularly those seeking treatment for gunshot wounds.
