Rabe’s death in bandits’ den national disgrace – Captain Bakoji

Retired Officer Calls General’s Kidnapping Death a National Disgrace

A retired Nigerian military officer has condemned the death of retired Major General Rabe Abubakar, who was reportedly killed by kidnappers in northern Nigeria, labeling the incident a national disgrace. Captain Abdullahi Bakoji made these remarks in an exclusive interview with DAILY POST on Saturday, coinciding with the burial of the General the same day.

Major General Abubakar and his wife were abducted in Katsina while traveling to Kaduna State. The Katsina State government confirmed on Saturday that he died in captivity, following the release of two videos featuring the General and his wife by their captors.

In his reaction, Bakoji, now a security analyst, emphasized that the tragedy should prompt government officials and security agencies to reconsider their strategies to combat insecurity. “This death has definitely affected both active and retired soldiers, demonstrating that even those who dedicated their lives to protecting the nation are not safe from threats,” he stated.

Bakoji expressed concern that a retired Major General could fall victim to mere terrorists, highlighting the broader challenges faced by everyday citizens in Nigeria. He pointed to significant gaps in security measures, particularly in intelligence gathering, crime prevention, and urgent crime response.

He called for enhanced collaboration among security agencies, improved military welfare, and greater economic stability to address the root causes of insecurity. “Poverty significantly contributes to the ongoing issues in Nigeria, and it must be addressed systematically,” he said.

Bakoji concluded by offering prayers for the repose of Major General Rabe Abubakar’s soul and extended condolences to his family during this difficult time.
