Real Madrid will bring Mourinho back if Perez is re-elected | Football News

Real Madrid President Promises Mourinho’s Return If Reelected

Jose Mourinho will be reinstated as manager of Real Madrid if Florentino Perez secures reelection in the club’s presidential election on Sunday. Perez made the announcement as he campaigns for another term leading the La Liga club.
Facing challenger Enrique Riquelme, a renewable energy entrepreneur, Perez’s statement marks the first contested election for Real Madrid in two decades. He released a campaign video on social media that featured Mourinho simply affirming with a “Yes!”
The video was accompanied by the slogan “So MOUch history to be made,” a reference to Mourinho’s successful tenure, during which he led Real to a record La Liga points total in 2012. His last league title came with Chelsea in 2015.
This move to bring Mourinho back follows a lackluster domestic season, as Barcelona has claimed back-to-back league titles. The 15-time Champions League winners have also been eliminated in the quarterfinals of Europe’s premier club competition for two consecutive years, leading Perez to call for elections.
Perez’s announcement coincided with Riquelme’s appearance on the Spanish television program El Hormiguero, where he stated that if elected, he would target Manchester City midfielder Rodri as his first signing. He also expressed interest in Manchester City striker Erling Haaland and proposed former forward Raul as his sports director.
Since leaving Chelsea, Mourinho’s recent achievements include winning the League Cup and Europa League with Manchester United, and the Conference League title with AS Roma. His managerial journey has included stints at Tottenham Hotspur, Fenerbahce, and Benfica, where he was under contract until June 2027, with Benfica reportedly seeking to renew his contract.
Despite discussions among analysts about whether Mourinho’s pragmatic style is suited for modern football, Perez appears to view him as a potential catalyst for restoring discipline and competitiveness within a squad that includes stars like Kylian Mbappe, Vinicius Jr., and Jude Bellingham.
Mourinho has previously stated that he had not been approached by Real Madrid, despite ongoing speculation regarding a potential return. If Perez does win the election, Mourinho would make a comeback to the club 13 years after initially leaving in 2013. He joined Real Madrid in 2010 and spent three seasons there, winning one La Liga title, a Copa del Rey, and a Spanish Super Cup.
Former coach Xabi Alonso was dismissed in January during his first season, with Alvaro Arbeloa stepping in as interim coach for the remainder of the season.
