Released Oyo kidnapped students: New security framework needed – Shehu Sani

Former Senator Calls for Enhanced School Security Framework

Former Kaduna Central Senator Shehu Sani emphasized the need for a new security framework to protect students as schools prepare to reopen.

Sani made his remarks following the successful rescue of schoolchildren abducted in Oyo State. He commended National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu, alongside the military, the Department of State Services (DSS), and the police for their efforts in securing the release of the victims.

In a post on social media platform X, Sani expressed relief at the development, stating, “It’s relieving to learn that the abducted Oyo pupils have been released. Kudos to the NSA Ribadu, the military, DSS, the Nigeria Police Force, and all those whose efforts led to this success.”

He also underscored the necessity for a national framework to ensure the safety of students as the academic year progresses.

The Oyo State pupils and their teachers were held captive for 50 days before their release, which was confirmed by Bayo Onanuga, a spokesman for President Bola Tinubu, in a statement on X.

“Finally, the kidnapped pupils and teachers in Orire, Oyo, have been freed by their abductors,” Onanuga announced.
