Six Killed in Russian Strikes on Eastern Ukraine

Russian military strikes on eastern Ukraine overnight resulted in the deaths of at least six individuals, according to local authorities. In a separate claim, Russia’s Ministry of Defence reported intercepting 605 Ukrainian drones over its territory and the annexed Crimean Peninsula.
In the eastern region of Kharkiv, Russian bombardments struck residential areas in Balakliya, killing three people, including two women and a man, according to Vitalii Karabanov, head of the local military administration. Emergency responders continued efforts to extinguish fires and clear debris from the attacks.
In the northern Sumy region, three additional fatalities were reported from Russian airstrikes, which also injured at least 19 others. Ukrainian police stated that 12 individuals were hurt in the city of Sumy as a result of guided aerial bombings.
Elsewhere, in the Dnipropetrovsk region, two individuals sustained injuries from a separate Russian attack, as indicated by Oleksandr Ganzha, the head of the regional military administration. Additionally, a drone strike on a van in the southern Kherson region injured six people, according to local authorities.
In Ukraine’s Black Sea region, a Russian assault targeted a foreign-flagged vessel carrying wheat, resulting in the death of a crew member and causing a fire on board. Oleh Kiper, the governor of Odesa, stated that the ship, identified as the Mera Queen and registered in Guinea-Bissau, was struck late Wednesday.
For over a month, Russia has intensified its efforts to disrupt Ukraine’s trade and export routes, conducting near-daily attacks on Black Sea ports.
In Moscow, the Russian Ministry of Defence claimed its air defense systems successfully intercepted and destroyed 605 Ukrainian drones overnight.
Additionally, reports emerged of minor damage to a logistic center operated by Russian e-commerce company Wildberries, following attacks on warehouses in the Tver region, northwest of Moscow. Authorities indicated that at least 20 of the company’s warehouses have been targeted since July 18. Ukrainian officials allege that Wildberries contributes to Moscow’s military efforts by supplying dual-use items that may serve military purposes.
