Set aside grievances, join new Kano agenda – Yusuf tells Kwankwaso

Kano Governor Urges Kwankwaso to Support New Administration

KANO, Nigeria — Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has called on Dr. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, leader of the Kwankwasiyya movement, to put aside personal grievances and join his administration in efforts to build a stronger Kano.

In remarks made during the annual Hawan Nassarawa celebration on Friday, Yusuf urged Kwankwaso to refocus on communal interests. “I call on him to look at Kano, not personal interests, and come on board to join the train of peace and a new Kano that will ensure a stable and progressive state,” the governor stated.

Yusuf noted the absence of Kwankwaso at a recent event attended by various stakeholders, emphasizing the need for unity. “When we had a program some days ago, I looked around and saw that almost everybody was there except Kwankwaso. Even governors who had problems with their deputies reconciled on that day,” he said.

The governor highlighted his administration’s commitment to addressing issues facing Kano State, describing his mission as one centered on fostering unity among its citizens. He acknowledged the Emir of Kano for his guidance but reaffirmed his own resolve: “I have never feared anybody in my life. My humility is not cowardice but a reflection of my good nature and closeness to the people.”

Yusuf pointed out the challenges that his administration inherited, claiming that measures had been introduced to rectify systemic issues without causing discord. “When we came into office, we met things in decay. That was why we introduced several measures to correct the ills,” he explained, citing a commitment to public safety and community harmony.

He also assured the Emir that there would be a future durbar “that will shake the world,” affirming the Emir’s continued leadership.

In assessing his advisory team, the governor expressed confidence in 85 percent of his advisers while warning that 15 percent were creating problems within the government. “Be warned, we are watching. Sooner rather than later, we are coming for you, and you will see the consequences of your negative actions,” he said.

The governor’s remarks reflect a broader aim of uniting the state amidst political challenges and ensuring sustainable development for its residents.
