President Bola Tinubu has called on prospective leaders of Nigeria to clarify the financial implications of their campaign promises, outlining their plans for implementation and sustainability.

In a statement posted on his X platform on Sunday, Tinubu emphasized that any government commitment must be supported by a realistic plan and should be economically viable, preventing the burden from being shifted to current and future generations.

“As President, I have a duty to provide relief today without compromising our children’s future,” Tinubu remarked. “Every commitment must be sustainable and backed by a credible plan. That responsibility guides our decisions, including the difficult ones.”

He warned that political promises are often made without considering their financial impact, leaving citizens and future generations to bear the consequences. “Anyone seeking to lead Nigeria should be prepared to explain what their promises will cost, how they will deliver them, and whether they can sustain them,” he added.

Tinubu also shared the stories of several Nigerians, including individuals named Blessing, Ada, Abigail, and Kabir, highlighting how government investments have influenced their daily lives. He acknowledged a particular request from another Nigerian, Emmanuel, which underscored the need for continued improvement in access to essential services.

“Emmanuel, your request reminds me of the work still ahead. I know many more Nigerians like you are waiting for these services,” Tinubu said.

He reiterated the importance of expanding access to affordable transportation throughout the country, stating that the Federal Government will collaborate with state governments to achieve this goal.

“Our responsibility is to keep expanding access until affordable transportation becomes a reality for more communities across our country. That is the work we will continue in collaboration with the States,” he affirmed.
