Two Killed in Suspected Cult-Related Violence in Edo State

Edo State authorities are investigating two murders believed to be linked to cult activities amid growing concerns over violence in the region.

Reports indicate the incidents took place in two separate locations: the Ugbiyokho area near Ekehuan Road in Ovia North-East and at Jattu Junction in Auchi, within the Etsako West Local Government Area.

In one incident on Monday at approximately 10:30 a.m., a motor park worker identified only as Jogodo was shot dead at Jattu Junction. Eyewitnesses stated that the assailants, arriving in a black Lexus RX 350, opened fire on him before fleeing the scene.

In a separate occurrence nearby, a young man known as Happy was murdered while returning home from work in the Ugbiyokho area. Sources reported that he was ambushed at close range as his wife opened the gate to their residence. Despite being rushed to the hospital, he succumbed to his injuries shortly after arrival.

The motive behind these attacks remains unclear.

Edo State Police Public Relations Officer ASP Eno Ikoedem confirmed that three suspects have been arrested in connection with the Auchi incident. She noted that the park where the shooting took place has been sealed off as part of the ongoing investigation.

Ikoedem stated that preliminary inquiries suggest the violence may be related to disputes over control of the motor park. The authorities have imposed the closure to prevent further incidents.

These events have intensified alarm regarding the prevalence of cult-related violence in Edo State, prompting calls for increased security measures in affected areas.
