Vice President Kashim Shettima Begins Two-Week Leave
Vice President Kashim Shettima has commenced a two-week leave, authorized by President Bola Tinubu, marking his first official break since taking office on May 29, 2023.
The announcement was made on Thursday in Abuja by Mr. Stanley Nkwocha, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications. Nkwocha stated that the leave will allow the Vice President to engage in study and reflection, aimed at enhancing his effectiveness in his role.
“He will utilize this time to review the administration’s ongoing programs and evaluate key policy priorities,” Nkwocha explained. The leave is expected to enhance Shettima’s understanding of emerging national and global policy issues.
Nkwocha emphasized that this period of reflection will prepare Shettima for future responsibilities, especially as the Federal Government intensifies efforts under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
Since taking office, Shettima has actively coordinated and supervised various strategic government initiatives, particularly in areas such as economic development, food security, humanitarian affairs, digital transformation, job creation, and regional cooperation.
He has also chaired meetings of the National Economic Council, an important intergovernmental platform that includes governors from the 36 states, the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, and other high-ranking officials who discuss policies impacting the economy and citizen welfare.
Additionally, Nkwocha highlighted Shettima’s contributions to Nigeria’s engagement with international partners on critical development issues. He has represented President Tinubu at significant international and regional forums, advocating for economic integration, peace and security, climate action, investment, and sustainable development.
Nkwocha added that Shettima remains dedicated to the principles of loyalty, duty, and service, which have defined his tenure. He has consistently supported President Tinubu’s vision for a more secure, productive, and prosperous Nigeria.
Shettima is scheduled to return to office at the conclusion of the two-week leave.
