Airport Cab Drivers Protest New Vehicle Directive
Airport cab drivers have expressed strong opposition to a directive from the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) mandating that all vehicles used by operators must be models from 2020 or later.
In a video widely circulated on social media platform X, drivers highlighted their inability to afford the new vehicles, which are priced at approximately 18 million naira and above. They cited ongoing economic challenges faced by many Nigerians under the administration of President Bola Tinubu.
Speaking in Yoruba, the drivers pleaded for intervention from both the public and the President. “This is what we are facing. Nigerians should help us intervene. They said we should go and buy a vehicle from 2020 or above, which costs 18 million naira and above, with the way Nigeria is now,” one driver stated.
Additionally, the driver alleged that FAAN intends to introduce an app for managing airport taxi operations and urged officials to bring their concerns to the President’s attention.
“There is no job in the country. Pity us, Nigerians. Let this go viral—help us,” the driver implored, emphasizing their urgent need for support.
