Victor Wembanyama, the tallest player in the NBA, has signed a multi-year contract extension with the San Antonio Spurs, making it the third-largest rookie extension in league history. The extension is reported to be for five years and $252 million, averaging $50.4 million per year.

Shortly after expressing his commitment to Spurs fans, saying he was “here to stay,” Wembanyama finalized the deal. The contract includes a player option for the fifth year, though the Spurs did not disclose specific financial details.

In a tweet, Wembanyama addressed fans directly, stating, “Spurs family, I’m here to stay. Whatever it takes.” The team shared photos and videos of Wembanyama signing the contract.

Regarded as one of the elite young talents in basketball, Wembanyama was selected first overall by the Spurs in the 2023 NBA Draft. Standing at 7 feet 4 inches tall, with an 8-foot wingspan, he has averaged 23.4 points, 11 rebounds, 3.5 assists, and 3.5 blocks per game over three seasons.

Wembanyama was named the Defensive Player of the Year and earned All-NBA First Team honors this season after posting career-high averages of 25.0 points and 11.5 rebounds per game. He has consistently demonstrated his skills as a shooter, maintaining a career 3-point percentage of 34.2 while averaging 2.2 made 3-pointers per game. Additionally, he has led the league in blocks since entering the NBA.

In his debut NBA Finals last month, the Spurs were defeated by the New York Knicks in five games. The current roster around Wembanyama includes guards De’Aaron Fox, Stephon Castle, Devin Vassell, and Dylan Harper, along with recent addition Tobias Harris, a veteran forward.
