APC rejects Tinubu campaign council list in Osun, demands review

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun has officially rejected the State Presidential Campaign Council (PCC) list, citing violations of party guidelines and the exclusion of key officials.

Wole Adunola, the Osun APC Publicity Secretary, made the announcement in a statement released on Tuesday in Abuja, which was co-signed by two other party officials. Adunola emphasized that the list did not adhere to established processes, lacked inclusivity, and failed to respect the party’s structure.

He pointed out that the omission of several members from the State Working Committee, who should have been included as statutory members, was a significant factor in the party’s decision to reject the list. “Of particular concern is the omission of several members of the State Working Committee who, according to applicable guidelines, are expected to be statutory members of the council,” he said.

Adunola also raised concerns regarding the appointment of Governor Ademola Adeleke as the director-general of the council, referencing a previous presidential directive. He noted that Adeleke had recently initiated a broad-based campaign team to manage President Bola Tinubu’s presidential campaign in the state.

“The emergence of a different structure without clear justification or alignment with the existing framework is perplexing,” Adunola stated. He suggested that the list might have been meant for a Parliamentary Campaign Council rather than the PCC. “If the newly released list was intended to serve as a Parliamentary Campaign Council, its composition would be more understandable,” he explained.

He underscored the necessity for clarification to prevent confusion, overlapping responsibilities, and potential discord within the party’s campaign framework. Adunola reaffirmed the importance of the State Executive Committee in the APC’s organizational structure and called for their inclusion in future planning.

“A successful campaign must be built on mutual respect, proper coordination, and the active involvement of legitimate party stakeholders,” Adunola said. He urged for an immediate review of the list, advocating for consultations with key stakeholders, including APC National Secretary Sen. Surajudeen Basiru and the State Director-General.

These consultations, he argued, would ensure proper alignment, effective coordination, and adherence to established party procedures. Adunola reiterated the chapter’s commitment to supporting Tinubu’s re-election efforts and stressed that loyalty to the party should not inhibit constructive discussions, especially if decisions risk fostering divisions.

He called on party leaders at both the state and national levels to address these issues promptly and implement the necessary corrections, emphasizing that a functional campaign council must embrace legitimate stakeholders, recognize established leadership, and unite members in pursuit of electoral success.
