Nigerian Gospel Artist Yinka Alaseyori Apologizes for Comments on Kidnapping Incident
Nigerian gospel musician Yinka Alaseyori has issued a public apology concerning her recent remarks on the kidnapping of schoolchildren in Oyo State.
On May 15, 2026, armed gang members raided Community High School in Ahoro-Esinele, located in the Oriire Local Government Area, abducting seven teachers and several students. The situation escalated hours later when a graphic video surfaced online, showing the beheading of one of the kidnapped teachers.
The incident has intensified national concerns regarding security in educational institutions, prompting widespread protests from labor unions, parents, and concerned citizens demanding government action for the safe return of the victims.
In a video posted Monday, Alaseyori addressed the crisis, expressing hope that the government is diligently working on the children’s release. She encouraged the public to support President Bola Tinubu and the security forces through prayer.
However, her comments faced significant backlash on social media, with critics, including some celebrities, asserting that the gravity of the security situation warranted more than just religious pleas.
In response to the criticism, Alaseyori released another video on Wednesday, in which she apologized to Nigerians. She acknowledged that her earlier message may have inadvertently made some feel overlooked.
“Good day everyone,” she began. “I conveyed my prayers for the kidnapped children and their families, as well as for our country. I learned that some well-meaning Nigerians felt offended by my comments and I never intended to make anyone feel this way.”
She continued, “Mothers, please don’t be angry with me. I beg you in God’s name, please forgive me if I ever spoke insensitively.”
