2027: Don’t delay release of funds to INEC – IPAC tells FG

IPAC Calls for Immediate Release of Funds to INEC for 2027 Elections
The Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) is urging the immediate release of funds to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to facilitate preparations for the upcoming 2027 general elections.
Yusuf Dantalle, the national chairman of IPAC, made the statement during an interview on Arise Television’s Prime Time on Tuesday. With the general elections now just 100 days away, political parties are intensifying their campaign efforts.
INEC, led by its national chairman, Professor Joash Amupitan, has begun the distribution of non-sensitive materials to various states in advance of the elections.
Dantalle emphasized the importance of timely funding for INEC, arguing that appropriate financing is crucial for the commission’s operational readiness. “I have always publicly stated that INEC is not funded appropriately,” he remarked. “The executive must release election funds promptly to allow INEC to adequately prepare.”
He warned that a rushed production of necessary election materials could jeopardize the integrity of the electoral process. Dantalle also referenced comments made by INEC’s chairman regarding the low pay for INEC staff, highlighting broader concerns about the commission’s resources and capabilities.
