2027: Nine political parties collect access codes for candidates’ particulars – INEC
Nine Political Parties Obtain Access Codes for 2027 Elections
ABUJA — The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that nine registered political parties have collected access codes to upload candidate information for the upcoming presidential and National Assembly elections set for 2027.
Malam Mohammed Haruna, INEC’s National Commissioner for Voter Education and Publicity, confirmed the development to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday. He stated that as of Monday’s close of business, nine parties had secured the necessary access codes.
Haruna identified the participating parties as Accord (A), Action Alliance (AA), African Democratic Congress (ADC), All Progressives Congress (APC), Labour Party (LP), National Democratic Congress (NDC), National Democratic Party (NDP), Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), and Social Democratic Party (SDP).
He clarified that it is the responsibility of the political parties to approach INEC for access codes rather than the commission distributing them to individual party offices. Additionally, any individual collecting the code on behalf of a party must present an authorization letter from the party’s leadership.
Haruna emphasized the importance of adhering to INEC’s guidelines for candidate nomination. He noted that party officials have already undergone training provided by the commission.
He also advised political parties against delaying the submission of their nomination forms online. “INEC has been generous by extending the deadline to midnight on the final date. If a political party chooses to wait until then, INEC cannot be held responsible,” Haruna said.
NAN reports that the window for political parties to submit nomination forms for presidential and National Assembly candidates runs from June 27 to July 11 through INEC’s designated online portal. Furthermore, the timetable for the 2027 general elections indicates that the submission period for governorship and State Assembly nominations is set for July 18 to August 8.
