Peter Obi Rejects Vote Buying in 2027 Presidential Campaign
SOKOTO, Nigeria – Peter Obi, the presidential candidate for the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), asserted on Monday that his campaign will not engage in financial inducements to party agents aimed at swaying voters during the upcoming 2027 elections.
Obi made the remarks during a town hall meeting, where he emphasized the detrimental effects of vote-buying on the nation’s socio-economic landscape. He linked the practice to escalating poverty levels, stating, “We are not ready to give money to party agents to entice voters. That is vote-buying, and it is part of the reason why poverty continues to rise in the country.”
The former governor of Anambra State affirmed that his campaign prioritizes integrity and transparency, reaffirming his commitment to ensuring proper security measures are in place to protect voters and guarantee accurate vote counting.
Obi was joined at the event by his running mate, Rabi’u Kwankwaso.
