Forest guard arrested over fake bandits’ attack letter to Kwara community

Nigerian Army Detains Forest Security Member Over Threat Letter

Kwara State, Nigeria — Zakari Usman, a member of the Nigeria Forest Security Services, is currently in custody of the Nigerian Army following allegations that he issued a threat letter to the residents of Venra Community in the Kaiama Local Government Area.

According to security sources, Usman allegedly delivered the letter on April 27, 2026, which warned of a possible bandit attack and the kidnapping of five individuals. An investigation conducted the following day identified Usman, who is also known as “Minister” and is a native of Venra Village, as the individual behind the alarm and the distribution of the threat letter.

Preliminary findings suggest that Usman wrote and posted the letter himself. Authorities believe the act may have been intended to instigate panic, potentially for extortion or to fraudulently secure a security contract from the community to “safeguard” against a non-existent threat.

As of the latest updates, Venra Community remains calm, with no reported incidents of banditry. Usman is being held for further investigation, which aims to uncover his intentions, any possible accomplices, and the motive behind his actions.

The situation has reportedly improved following swift measures by the local government. Alhaji Abubakar Danladi, the Chairman of the Local Government Area, has met with leaders of Venra Community along with security agencies to assure residents of their safety.
