Celebrity boxing: Doctor advises Portable to undergo brain scan

Nigerian Doctor Advises Portable to Undergo Brain Examination Following Celebrity Boxing Match

A Nigerian physician residing in Canada, Dr. Arinze Onwumelu, has recommended that singer Portable undergo a medical examination of his brain after his recent boxing match with skit maker Carter Efe. The bout, held over the weekend in Lagos, concluded with Portable suffering a defeat.

The fight garnered significant attention from fans and public figures, igniting discussions across social media platforms following the outcome, which saw the artist known for his hit “Zazuu” on the losing end.

In a video posted online Monday, Dr. Onwumelu, also known as Dr. Zo, urged Portable to get a Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) scan to investigate potential internal injuries sustained during the match. He expressed concern that Efe delivered multiple blows to vulnerable areas of Portable’s head, raising the possibility of a subdural hematoma, a serious brain condition.

“This is an exhibition match meant for entertainment, not a real fight to cause harm,” Dr. Onwumelu stated. “It raises questions about whether Efe was fully briefed on the intent of the event. The nature of the punches he threw could have long-lasting effects on Portable.”

He further advised that those close to Portable should seek immediate medical attention for the singer, warning that there may be internal damage.

Moreover, the physician called for event organizers to mandate the use of protective headgear for all participants to mitigate the risk of severe head injuries.

Prior to the match, Portable had displayed confidence in his physical readiness and asserted his capability to win, having previously achieved victories in boxing contests against rapper Speed Darlington and actor Charles Okocha.
