2026 Guber: Use your vote to secure continuity, Oyebanji tells Ekiti people

Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji has called on residents to use their votes to ensure continuity in governance in the upcoming governorship election scheduled for June 20. Speaking at rallies in Ekiti East and Ayekire Local Government Areas, Oyebanji emphasized the need to reject what he termed “politics of retrogression.”

The governor, who is the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the upcoming election, urged voters to also support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the January 2027 presidential election as a gesture of gratitude for his support to Ekiti State.

Oyebanji remarked that no Nigerian leader has offered as much assistance to the state as Tinubu, urging voters to contribute significantly to his re-election bid.

During his campaign, he highlighted the detrimental effects of frequent changes in party leadership on the state’s development. The governor reiterated his commitment to a peaceful electoral process, encouraging party members to abstain from violence to ensure a notable and fulfilling victory.

His rallies, which gathered large crowds in Omuo Ekiti and Ode Ekiti, celebrated the administration’s recent achievements, including the restoration of electricity to the region after a lengthy blackout lasting over ten years. Residents expressed their gratitude for this development, noting its positive impact on the local economy.

In his address, Oyebanji reinforced the importance of continuity in governance, citing the historical challenge of alternating governments in Ekiti State. He presented the forthcoming election as a chance for residents to elect a governor for consecutive terms and urged voters to reject instability.

“In less than a year, Ekiti State will mark its 30th anniversary, and no government has ever won consecutive elections,” Oyebanji explained. “This election is a chance to change that narrative.”

The governor called for a strong voter turnout in support of the APC, which he believes would enhance the party’s position in the upcoming gubernatorial elections in neighboring Osun State in August.

Prominent party leaders, including Senator Biodun Olujimi and Representative Femi Bamisile, attended the rallies to endorse Oyebanji’s re-election. They encouraged voters to acknowledge the administration’s contributions to the community.

Youth leader Mayowa Ogundana commended the governor for job creation initiatives and the restoration of power to previously affected communities.

Oyebanji’s campaign featured support from his Deputy, Chief (Mrs) Monisade Afuye, and other officials, as he sought to bolster his chances for re-election.

The governor’s outreach underscored a strong desire for a cohesive future in Ekiti, highlighting the importance of community and political engagement in the electoral process.
