2027 polls: Why we endorsed Tinubu, Hamzat, others – Alimosho APC stakeholders

Alimosho APC Stakeholders Endorse Tinubu and Hamzat for Upcoming Elections

By Dapo Akinrefon

ALIMOSHO, Lagos — Members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the Alimosho Federal Constituency have formally endorsed President Bola Tinubu for re-election in 2027. Additionally, they backed Lagos State Deputy Governor Dr. Obafemi Hamzat as the party’s candidate to succeed Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

The endorsement was announced during a meeting on Saturday, aimed at unifying party members after internal divisions impacted APC’s performance in the recent general elections. Key figures including Senator Idiat Adebule, and House of Representatives members Kehinde Joseph and Lukmon Olatunji Orelope were also supported for re-election.

The gathering, led by APC leader Adebisi Yusuf and former deputy governor Joke Orelope-Adefulire, marked a significant effort to consolidate support ahead of the 2027 elections, particularly in a constituency critical for electoral success.

Yusuf emphasized that the meeting represented a renewed commitment to party unity, noting that past divisions had hindered the APC’s effectiveness in Alimosho. “We need unity in Alimosho ahead of the 2027 general election,” he stated.

He remarked on the importance of mobilizing support for Tinubu, asserting that efforts would be strengthened to ensure a high voter turnout from the constituency. As head of the Grassroots Movement for Tinubu (GMT), Yusuf indicated that they are intensifying grassroots efforts to secure votes.

In addition to supporting Tinubu, the stakeholders expressed collective support for Hamzat, citing his strong record in public service and alignment with existing leadership support within the party. Yusuf noted that Hamzat’s capabilities should warrant his candidacy for the gubernatorial position.

The endorsement of the incumbent lawmakers — including Adebule, Ganiyu Adele-Ayuba, Joseph, and Orelope — reflects their perceived effectiveness as representatives of Alimosho. Yusuf described Joseph’s potential return as advantageous, allowing him to become a ranking member of the House of Representatives, while also enhancing the constituency’s ability to attract resources.

On Adele-Ayuba, Yusuf acknowledged his role as a unifying figure who has enhanced collaboration within the party, underscoring the importance of their continued support.

Yusuf urged stakeholders to prioritize unity over personal interests, cautioning against attitudes such as arrogance and greed, which have previously led to internal strife.

The endorsements are set against the backdrop of strategic preparations as the APC gears up for the next election cycle, underscoring a commitment to overcoming past challenges.
