Kanayo O. Kanayo and Sola Sobowale Receive Industry Merit Award at AMVCA 2026

LAGOS, Nigeria — Veteran Nigerian actors Kanayo O. Kanayo and Sola Sobowale were honored with the Industry Merit Award at the 2026 Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) on Saturday night. The awards ceremony, part of the 12th edition of the AMVCA, took place at Eko Hotel and Suites in Lagos.

The recognition celebrates the pair’s significant contributions to the Nigerian film industry, highlighting their status as esteemed figures in Nollywood.

During her acceptance speech, Sobowale expressed gratitude to the event organizers and her supporters, particularly thanking her children for their role in her journey as both a mother and an actress. “I want to especially thank God Almighty for keeping me until this day to have this. I thank my children. Thank you to all my colleagues. I thank my fans because without you, ‘Ko si Shola’ (there’s no Shola),” she stated. “It truly is an honor.”

Kanayo O. Kanayo also utilized the platform to address his concerns regarding xenophobic violence in South Africa, reinforcing the importance of unity among nations.
