FG moves to clear Apapa, Tin Can Port corridors

PEBEC to Launch Clean-Up Operation at Lagos Port Corridors

The Presidential Enabling Business Environment Council (PEBEC) has announced a two-day clean-up and enforcement initiative aimed at improving trade facilitation at the Lagos port corridors. The operation, scheduled for May 14 and 15, 2026, will focus on restoring order in the Apapa and Tin Can port areas, which serve as vital maritime and logistics hubs for Nigeria.

In a statement from PEBEC’s Director General, Princess Zahrah Mustapha Audu, the initiative is part of the Federal Government’s ongoing reforms to enhance transparency, efficiency, and investment appeal in the business environment.

The clean-up effort will address several longstanding issues affecting access roads to the ports, including traffic congestion, illegal checkpoints, and unregulated parking, as well as environmental degradation. These problems have hampered cargo movement and increased operational costs for businesses.

PEBEC anticipates that the initiative will improve traffic management and facilitate smoother cargo flow, ultimately reducing delays for port users.

Additionally, the operation aims to enhance public order and environmental conditions by removing illegal structures and obstructions. It is designed to foster collaboration among various security and regulatory agencies working in the port environment.

Participating agencies include the Nigerian Ports Authority, the Nigeria Customs Service, the Nigeria Police Force, the Lagos State Government, port terminal operators, and other relevant unions and regulatory bodies.
