EPL: Alonso opens up on Chelsea beating Arsenal to Morgan Rogers’ signature

Chelsea head coach Xabi Alonso addressed the recent signing of Morgan Rogers, who joined the club after a competitive pursuit that included interest from Arsenal. Alonso spoke at a press conference ahead of Chelsea’s Premier League match against Arsenal on Sunday, September 6.
Rogers, 24, transferred to Stamford Bridge this summer for a reported fee of £117 million from Aston Villa. Although he was reportedly considering a move to Arsenal, he ultimately chose Chelsea after the Gunners could not match Chelsea’s offer.
“When discussing squad planning and making significant decisions, acquiring Morgan was a crucial choice,” Alonso said. “He is set to be a vital player for the next six to seven years. His synergy with the entire team is excellent, and his rapport with his striking partners is remarkable, instilling us with considerable optimism for the future. He appears genuinely happy, which is essential.”
While Arsenal missed out on Rogers, they secured Christos Tzolis, who made an impact with two assists in his debut during a 3-0 victory over Manchester City in the FA Community Shield last month.
Rogers, for his part, has already made a mark at Chelsea, scoring in his debut during a 3-2 win against Fulham, and providing an assist in a thrilling 4-3 victory over Brighton & Hove Albion last week.
